Q: What is the difference between a club team and a division I sport at Mizzou?
A:
Though the club team is sanctioned through the University, we are not an NCAA division I varsity team.  We do not recruit players outside of those at the University and we can not offer scholarships for incoming players.  Club sports were designed by the University to provide leadership opportunities and develop the abilities of students interested in a specific sport or athletic activity, as well as improving the quality of life for students and encouraging positive and healthy lifestyle choices.

Q: Is there a coach for the club team?
A:
At this point the team has reserved the coaching position as a leadership role to be fulfilled by a player on the team.  The team strongly believes that the club can only be as successful as its members and as such, most training, scheduling, and other decisions are made by the team and its elected officials.

Q: I am interested in playing on the club team, when are tryouts?

A:  Tryouts are held at the beginning of each semester.  However, all Mizzou students are welcome to attend our weekly practices and will be considered accordingly. There is typically a small tryout fee that all participants must pay.
Q: When does the club team practice?

A: The club team will practice on the following days at Hinkson Creek Park:

August 20 - September 7 (preseason): Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5-7 p.m.

September 11 - October 4: Tuesday and Thursday from 5-7 p.m.

October 9 - October 25: Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.

October 30 - November 1: NO PRACTICE (recover from Regional Tournament and fundraise for Nationals)

November 5 - November 14: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4-6 p.m. (indoors)

Q: Does it cost to play on the club team?

A: For practice players, there is no cost to participate.  For players on the team, the club charges $75 dues in the Fall and $25 dues in the Spring to cover team expenses including travel, equipment, field reservations, and referees.
Q: How much travel is required of club team players?

A: This season the team will play four away games -- at Kansas, Kansas State, Wichita State, and Southwest Baptist.  The team will host the 2007 Region IV North Tournament and the team will travel to the NIRSA National Championships in Pensacola, Florida. With this in mind, the team typically and intentionally maintains a large roster to allow for conflicts in players' personal schedules and commitments.
Q: What other opportunities are there at Mizzou to play soccer?

A: MizzouRec schedules intramural sports each year, typically with a full soccer season in the Spring and a soccer tournament in the Fall.  Players can compete in open, competitive, residence hall, and greek divisions.  Check under "Rec Sports" on the MizzouRec website for more information on intramural opportunities.  Additionally, the Missouri Athletic Center has several divisions for college students to play indoor soccer on different nights of the week.  Finally, Hinkson Creek Park and Stankowski Outdoor Recreation Complex are great places to find casual, pick-up games every evening.
